2022

Orleans and Firefall, Jim Brickman and The Temptations were part of the incredible 2022 lineup that kept festival attendees entertained throughout October. The weather in 2022 was perfect with cool fall evenings each night under the stars. The Festival was once again held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island.

The 22nd Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, offered hors d’oeuvres and over 95 wines to wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and guests and this year’s Reverse Drawing was a hit with guests. The local restaurants that participated with the delicious appetizers made the evening spectacular. In addition to the Grammy Award winning entertainers mentioned above, the Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art also featured Giada Valenti, Kurt Thomas, The Sharpe Family Singers, Love is A Rose, and Michael Lynche. Followed by our finale, the tabled event, Private Eyes: The Premier Hall & Oates Tribute. By all accounts from members, sponsors and guests, 2022 was considered by far the BEST and most UNFORGETTABLE experience in recent years.

On April 30, 2022, PIFMA held the 2nd Annual Low Country Sunday Supper. Our guests were entertained by the Second Nature Band as well as Tamir & Company. The incredible 6 course meal was presented by six local chefs and the guests enjoyed the “Tuscan Themed” dinner. Everyone in attendance said it was the most fun and are excited to be part of the Low Country Sunday Supper in 2023. A new location for the fundraiser will be announced in early 2023.

2021

After a long year recovering from Covid in 2020….Tavares, Atlanta Rhythm Section & Best of the Eagles brought large numbers of guests for 2021 and sell out crowds. It was the Festival’s 30th Anniversary and by all accounts by ticket sales and crowds, PIFMA is becoming one of the most popular events in South Carolina during the month of October.

The 21st Annual Pawleys Island Wine & Food Gala, held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offered hors d’oeuvres and over 75 wines to wine enthusiasts, and the Reverse Drawing was a hit with guests.

In addition to the Grammy Award winning entertainers mentioned above, the 2021 Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art also featured The Miracles, The Texas Tenors, Lao Tizer, Orlando Transit Authority and Black Market Trust. PIFMA ended the season with the now infamous Tabled Event and presented Destination Motown. Ticket holders, Members, Sponsors and the public was all a buzz during PIFMA, touting it as the most desired ticket in town for many of our entertainers. Once again, ticket sales and crowd attendance continue to grow each year.

Also in 2021, PIFMA began a new fundraiser, The Low Country Sunday Supper, held at Litchfield Plantation on April 24, 2021. A delectable 6 course meal was prepared by six local chefs along with award winning wines from Cathedral Ridge Winery. A beautiful Sunday afternoon along the banks of the Waccamaw River made this fundraiser one we will continue for years to come.

2020

Festival was canceled due to Covid.

2019

Blood, Sweat & Tears, Pablo Cruise, Marshall Tucker Band set the tone for 2019 and the sell out crowds. It was the Festival’s 29th Anniversary and by all accounts by ticket sells and crowds, PIFMA is becoming one of the most popular events in South Carolina during the month of October.

The 20th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offered hors d’oeuvres and over 75 wines to wine enthusiasts, and the Reverse Drawing was a hit with guests.

In addition to the Grammy Award winning entertainers mentioned above, the Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art also featured Decades Rewind, We’ve Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered and Next Generation Leahy. The final weekend PIFMA presented legendary Lords of 52nd Street: Legends of the Billy Joel Band and many said it was one of the best shows ever performed under the tent. Followed by the smooth harmonizing sounds of Shades of Buble’: a Three Man Tribute to Michael Buble, PIFMA ended the season with the now infamous Tabled Event and presented Soultown. Ticket holders, Members, Sponsors and the public was all a buzz during PIFMA touting it as the most desired ticket in town for many of our entertainers. Once again, ticket sales and crowd attendance was the largest in PIFMA history.

2018

The Spinners, the Drifters, and the Marshall Tucker Band were part of the star-studded 2018 lineup that kept festival attendees on the edge of their seats.  “Each year the festival grows in the talent we attract, the number of attendees and the proceeds raised that help to support the arts in our communities,” said Delores Blount, the Festival’s Director.  It was our biggest Festival ever as far as attendance and ticket sales.

The 18th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offered hors d’oeuvres and over 95 wines to wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and guests and this year’s Reverse Drawing was a hit with guests.  In addition to the Grammy Award winning entertainers mentioned above, the Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art also featured the  Yacht Rock sounds of Ambrosia, the Broadway Classical and performance of O Sole Trio.  Due to a pending Hurricane threat 60’s Tribute Band, The British Invasion Years  were moved to Belin United  Methodist Church where the congregation was certainly rocking.  Followed by the smooth Jazz trumpeter, Rick Braun and our finale tabled event by Three Sheets to the Wind.

By all accounts from members, sponsors and guests, 2018 was considered by far the BEST and most UNFORGETTABLE experience in recent years.

2017

The fifth annual Seaside Palette kicked off Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art’s 27th year. This year’s event, which included the Chalk Walk, was held in downtown Georgetown, and ended with a Wet Paint Sale and reception on the lawn at Francis Marion Square. Entertainment was provided throughout the day by Litchfield Dance Arts Academy, Lana Guy and Dan & Sallylu. The 18th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offered hors d’oeuvres and over 95 wines to wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and guests and this year’s Reverse Drawing was a hit with guests. This year we had Miss South Carolina has our emcee for the Reverse Drawing. A troupe of artists, musicians, singers and dancers appropriately named ARTRAGEOUS sang, danced and produce masterpieces of art for our adoring audience. It was an extravaganza for the senses, a visual journey of wild inspiration, creativity and fun! The headliner this year was the one and only Delbert McClinton. Delbert was a sold out concert with many of his fans experiencing the Festival for the very first time. The second weekend started with a tribute to Carole King & James Taylor- “You’ve Got a Friend” that had the audience singing along to each and every tune. Our second headliner of the year was the incomparable Melissa Manchester, Grammy award winning performer and songwriter. The third weekend kicked off with the awesome talents of Bluegrass group, Balsam Range, Joe Gransden and his Big Band, with the finale tabled event by Motown sensation, Masters of Soul.

2016

The fourth annual Seaside Palette kicked off Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art’s 26th year. This year’s event, which included the Chalk Walk, was held in downtown Georgetown, and ended with a Wet Paint Sale and reception on the lawn of the Kaminski House Museum. Entertainment by The Healing Force at Francis Marion Park was an important part of the Seaside Palette. Many children and families came to join in the “Serving the Community through the Arts” celebration. The 17th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offered hors d’oeuvres and over 100 wines to wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and guests and this year’s Reverse Drawing was a hit with guests. Shana Tucker, singer-songwriter, and cellist visited the schools through our outreach progam, followed by an heartwarming performance under the performance tent that same evening. Peabo Bryson headlined this year’s festival and the sold out crowd was mesmerized by his talents. The second week of the Festival was interrupted by Hurricane Matthew so several of the performances were rescheduled. The following week Marcus Anderson, Pop/R& B and Jazz vocalist and saxophonist showcased his incredible talent and energy, followed by John Brown’s Little Big Band giving the audience an explosive night of Big Band sounds. The tabled event this year was by far one of the crowd favorites. The Doo Wop Project entertained the guests with sounds from the Doo Wop era, the classic sound of five guys singing tight harmonies to the biggest hits on the radio currently. The final weekend of entertainers( rescheduled from Hurricane Matthew) included The Company Men and their show ”A Night of Hits” bringing to the stage a staggering 50+ songs in just 90 minutes. And our first country entertainer in many years, Barrett Baber, a finalist from NBC’s The Voice, commanded the stage with his unique, soulful country sound. Classical Cellist, Zuill Bailey and pianist, Natasha Paremski, were rescheduled for January 2017 in a newly formed progam named the Lee Minton Series, named after our founder. The Lee Minton Series will be dedicated to classical and chamber music held in the winter months of each year at The Abbey, Litchfield Plantation.

2015

The third annual Seaside Palette kicked off Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art’s 25th year. This year’s event was held exclusively in downtown Georgetown, and ended with a Wet Paint Sale and reception on the lawn of the Kaminski House Museum. The Chalk Walk was held in a new location for 2015 on Front Street in Georgetown, in conjunction with a performance by Squonk Opera, with a huge crowd attending. Squonk Opera’s Pneumatica was an event about air, made of air and powered by air. The Sqonkers filled the streets of Georgetown with live original music that permeated the air, while the inflatables pumped up and immersed the audience. The Festival outreach program involved reaching over 2500 Georgetown County students with concerts by Squonk Opera. The 16th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offered hors d’oeuvres and over 100 wines to wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and guests and this year’s Reverse Drawing was a hit with guests. Aaron Neville headlined this year’s festival and the sold out crowd was not disappointed, even though it was moved to Waccamaw High School due to heavy flooding. The second week kicked off with Mike Farris and The Roseland Rhythm Revue showcasing his blues and rock extravaganza, followed by Natalie Douglas’ Jazz Party. The second headliner of the Festival was the return of Grammy Award winner, Steve Tyrell. The third week kicked off with the amazing talent and return of Ken Lavigne. His show, An Evening with Ken Lavigne, was a highlight of this year’s festival. The 2015 Festival was rounded out without the Bigband sound of Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra. So Good For the Soul provided the Festival guests with the feel good sounds of Motown and set the tone for a wonderful finale and sold-out tabled event.

2014

The second annual Seaside Palette kicked off Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art’s 24th year. This year’s event was held exclusively in downtown Georgetown, and ended with a Wet Paint Sale and reception on the lawn of the Kaminski House Museum. The Chalk Walk was again held in Huntington Beach State Park, in conjunction with Atalya Arts and Crafts Festival, with a huge crowd attending. The 15th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offered hors d’oeuvres and over 100 wines to wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and guests and this year’s Reverse Drawing was a hit with guests. The The Manhattan Transfer headlined this year’s festival and the sold out crowd was not disappointed. The Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass Band provided audiences with an evocative musical look back through American music spanning pre-Civil War through the Civil Rights Movement. On Sunday afternoon, the talented dancers of North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble kept audiences on their toes with their spirited performance. The second week kicked off with the amazing talent of Ken Lavigne. His show, “The Road to Carnegie Hall,” was a highlight of this year’s festival. Coming all the way from England, the Swingle Singers gave an a cappella performance that wowed all in attendance. Their song with the students of Waccamaw High School chorus brought a standing ovation. On the last Friday, audiences were treated to the beautiful “Rhapsody in Bluegrass” show by Annie Moses Band, a Julliard-trained group that had many dancing in the aisles. The Bronx Wanderers’ incredible renditions of songs we all know by heart set the tone for a wonderful sold-out tabled event. To close this year’s festival, the Sunday Seaside Showcase featured six local bands and all funds raised were donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

2013

This year’s event was kicked off with the 14th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala, held under the big tent at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offering hors d’oeuvres and over 100 wines to wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and guests. The first Seaside Palette, En Plein Air, was held in locations in downtown Georgetown and Pawleys Island, with much success. The very popular Chalk Under the Oaks event was moved to Huntington Beach State Park, in conjunction with Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival with a record number of artists participating. Headliners Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. rocked a sold out crowd with an electrifying performance of songs we all know by heart. Local musician and American Idol finalist, Elise Testone, gave the crowds a rocking Sunday afternoon performance. Her song with the children of Teach My People brought a standing ovation. Pianist Emile Pandolfi’s lush arrangements of time-honored popular standards and Broadway hits had concert-goers singing along and tapping their toes. The next night, the pop-classical singers, Vivace, wowed audiences with the beauty and skill of their performance. A fun Friday night was had by all who attended the blue great Mac Arnold’s concert. Along with his band, A Plate Full O’ Blue, this concert was a night to remember. Closing the 2013 Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art, The Movin’ Out Band performed at the annual tabled event. A sold out crowd enjoyed elegant picnic dinners while this band’s rendition of Billy Joel tunes soon had them dancing in the aisles.

2012

This year’s event was again kicked off with The Wearable Art Luncheon held at Tommy Bahama Restaurant at the Market Common. A silent auction displayed jewelry, hats, scarves, and artwork made by local artists, with proceeds benefiting the Kathryn Bryan Metts Scholarship and PIFMA. The Gallery Crawl featured several art galleries from Murrells Inlet to Georgetown, displaying the visual arts treasures of the Lowcountry and its artists. The 3rd annual independent film series graced the screens of Tara Theatre at Litchfield Golf & Beach Resort over a two-night, four-film display, featuring explorations of the Hobcaw Barony, an aerial circus and the life of Jack Kerouac. The 13th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala took over the lawns of The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, offering hors d’oeuvres and over 100 wines to wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and guests. Headliner Steve Tyrell was a hit with audiences, offering soulful renditions of classic jazz favorites. The following afternoon Mac Arnold performed his electric blues tunes at the Reserve Golf Club as well. All Saints Church hosted a concert by Taylor Johnson, Soprano, with an opening number by a Young Treasures Scholars, celebrating our area’s talented young artists and musicians. Fireworks Ensemble, an amplified chamber band, hosted a workshop at Waccamaw High School, and performed at the new Waccamaw High School Auditorium. Blues singer Deborah Silver crooned to audiences at The Reserve Golf Club, and the next night, Legends of Motown, starring Horizon, sang to dining guests during the tabled event, with complimentary desserts catered by Croissants Bistro & Bakery. The last day of the Festival was Family Day, with Terralynn Lake leading the artists during the 3rd Annual Chalk Walk, and the Children’s Theatre group performing Once Upon a Time.

2011

The 21st season of Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art (PIFMA) was held at beautiful Brookgreen Gardens this year, but PIFMA also hosted several other events in various locations from Georgetown to Myrtle Beach. The first annual Wearable Art Luncheon kicked off the two-week long affair, featuring unique pieces crafted and donated by local artists to benefit the Kathy B. Metts Visual Arts Scholarship and the Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art. The event included a strolling fashion show and was held at Tommy Bahama Restaurant at The Market Common. The Gallery Crawl was held that first Sunday afternoon, with various art galleries from Murrells Inlet to Georgetown showcasing their best pieces. Following success from last year, Tara Theatre was the location for PIFMA’s second independent film series. Four movies spanned two nights, ranging from an exploration of Gullah heritage to an appreciation of South Carolina artists. The 12th Annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala gathered at The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, presenting over 66 wines from a diverse group of wineries across the nation. Headliner Spyro Gyra, an American jazz fusion band, rocked audiences with funky instrumentals, and the next day’s audiences were captivated by bluegrass group Kickin Grass Band. Charleston Chamber Opera gave a performance at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church, offering a fresh approach to opera, with a theatrical fusion of music and art. A Capella group Ball in the House led show choir workshops at Waccamaw and Carolina Forest High Schools, and then performed with each choir at Brookgreen Gardens. David Osborne Trio graced Brookgreen Gardens as well with a range of piano tunes. The Hit Men rocked the tabled event, with guests decorating tables for the competition and enjoying complimentary dessert while being entertained by a blast from the past rendition of songs from Frankie Valli’s Original Four Seasons. Family Day was the final day of PIFMA, including the Chalk Walk featuring the talents of Lee Jones, and the Bits ‘N Pieces Puppet Theatre performing The Musical Tale of Peter Rabbit.

2010

This year’s sparkling event was primarily held under the dripping oaks of Litchfield Plantation, but the event started with PIFMA’s first independent film series, held at Tara Theatre, featuring four fascinating films. Our popular fundraiser, the Pawleys Island Wine Gala was well attended with over 145 wines available for tasting and, in addition, wine connoisseurs had a new opportunity this year with our Private Wine Tasting held the night before the Wine Gala. This new event was small and intimate, featuring high end wines and delicious pairings that made this a very special evening. Another new event, Chalk Under the Oaks, was fun for the entire family. It was led by nationally known chalk artist, Lee Jones. Headliner, Steve March Tormé, entertained audiences with renditions of his famous father’s songs and, the next day, blues fans had their day as Cool John Ferguson played under the oaks. Held at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Church, classical guitarist, Marco Sartor, amazed everyone attending with his incredible talent. The last Friday of PIFMA was a beautiful night, with even more beautiful music by jazz great, Judy Carmichael, who also spent that morning teaching local high school students about what it means to be a professional musician. The tabled event was also held that final weekend, and everyone wanted to get up and dance to the swing sound of the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. Our last day saw a performance just for the little ones. “It’s Showtime,” by the Grand Strand Theatrical Youth Players was fun for both the actors and the audience. That same afternoon, PIFMA’s Gallery Crawl was held with five local art galleries participating.

2009

The tenth annual Pawleys Island Wine Gala kicked off this year’s two-weekend event with record breaking attendance at the Carriage House in moss-draped Litchfield Plantation. The next night, a full house enjoyed Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell’s entertaining performance under the big tent in Brookgreen Gardens. The smooth jazz sounds of Ann Caldwell and Enrique Haneine at Jazz Under the Oaks in Litchfield Plantation on Sunday afternoon brought the first weekend to a successful conclusion. The second weekend began with the much-loved table event, featuring Long Bay Chamber Orchestra, led by Dr. Charles Evans Jones. Dallas Brass captured the hearts of the audience on Saturday night with a fun-filled mix of Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music. The audience gave a standing ovation to our own Georgetown High School Band, who skillfully performed a number with this entertaining musical ensemble. A treat for the little ones closed the 2009 Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art. Bits ‘N’ Pieces Puppet Theatre’s brought squeals of delight from the crowd during their performance of Alice in Wonderland on Sunday afternoon; a perfect ending to another successful year.

2008

The year’s event opened with the newgrass sound of Sam Bush, followed by an encore performance by Barrage, who were brought back this year by popular demand. A well-attended performance by the Waccamaw High School Chorus was followed by the Hallalujah Singers on Sunday afternoon. The next weekend brought us back to our classical roots with performances by Phillip Powell, Agnes Kael-Nagy and Erin Althoff. On Saturday, audiences enjoyed the comedy and improv of Chicago City Limits, and Sunday afternoon, our own Ilka Doubek choreographed and directed an original dance theatre event, “Fairy Tale & Fantasy Figures.” The Long Bay Chamber Orchestra gave a rousing performance at the tabled event this year, followed by another delightful afternoon of Jazz Under the Oaks, bringing another successful Festival to a close.

2007

Four themed weekends brought musical pleasure to thousands during the 2007 Festival. The Charleston Symphony Orchestra highlighted the Classical weekend, with the College of Charleston Choir and Cellist, Colin Carr performed with Pianist, Thomas Sauer. The Pops and Dance Music weekend was dominated by the amazing, high-energy performance of Barrage, and the well-loved music of The Kadillacs. A special performance of Peter and the Wolf was a special treat for our younger art lovers. Bélla Fleck and The Flecktones kicked off the Jazz and Blues weekend with a sold out Friday night performance. The melodic sounds of Tinsley Ellis and Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience and an afternoon of Jazz Under the Oaks rounded out the weekend. Our Tribute Weekend began with Jim Witter performing the music of Lennon and McCartney. A Tribute to the Piano, played by local favorite, Rocky Fretz, delighted the audience and brought the Festival to a successful close.

2006

The 2006 Festival was a great success, with artists’ performances including the great jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis, who performed a riveting performance to a sold-out crowd! The audience couldn’t stay in their seats! Other highlights of the Festival included a Gershwin On Broadway evening, the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble, BlueRidge, and another starlit performance by the Long Bay Chamber Orchestra. Bill Pinkney & The Gospel Drifters kicked off the series, with another children’s performance (Cinderella) by the Enchantment Theatre Company. Dr. Lorin Mason was inducted into the Festival of Fame, and thousands enjoyed the many great concerts at Brookgreen!

2005

This year marked two significant changes in the Festival: a new location and new dates. We moved to beautiful Brookgreen Gardens for the month of October, which worked well on both fronts. Many say it was the most successful Festival yet, with Music of the Generations as our theme, highlighting the music from the 40’s (In the Mood Live), the 50’s (Let the Good Times Roll – Dance Sounds from the 50’s) and the 70’s (The Piano Men). World-renowned jazz with Branford Marsalis, the Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Company, Bluegrass at Brookgreen, the Long Bay Chamber Orchestra, our first Children’s Theater featuring Pinocchio, the Miami String Quartet, and our annual Pawleys Island Wine Festival rounded out Festival 2005.

2004

Art, stage plays, literature, dance, and of course, wonderful music all combined for a remarkable fourteenth season of the Festival. September 2004 will be long remembered, not only for its weather challenges, but for the sell-out performances of headliner Delbert McClinton and Rocky Fretz playing Andrew Lloyd Webber.

2003

The 2003 festival was a landmark season with the festival moving to its 11,000 square foot performance venue. A sell-out performance by Grammy award-winning jazz legend Chuck Mangione headlined the year, along with Grammy award-winner, The Nashville Bluegrass Band. The nationally acclaimed Richmond Ballet and the Long Bay Chamber Orchestra added dramatic classical programs to the month-long festival.

2002

The 2002 festival featured a new and expanded look at the visual arts in the area by joining with six wonderful galleries in the Trolley Art Crawl. Dance returned to the line up as well. The music selections covered chorale, beach music, jazz, symphony, bluegrass, gospel and spiritual.

2001

The Sound of Music: With the debut of our own Pops Orchestra, a Caberet, a Choral performance, a diverse African-American program and Musical Theatre, we launch the second program of the new millennium.

2000

In the year 2000, the Festival of Music & Art celebrated its tenth anniversary with “Horizons 2002.” Six musical programs were offered, as well as two visual arts programs and a theatre performance.

1999

The 1999 Festival, “Celebrating the Century,” offered eight musical programs that provided a retrospective look at the top musicians of the twentieth century.

1998

The 1998 Festival of Music & Art’s theme was “An American in Pawleys,” programs dedicated to the American way of music. Seven musical programs explored this theme.

1997

1997 saw the beginning of Pawleys Island Pizazz, a series of free musical programs. Overall, seven programs were offered during the 1997 Festival, two of which were held at Brookgreen Gardens.

1996

The 1996 Festival of Music & Art at Pawleys Island was comprised of four musical programs, ranging from classical to African American spirituals. The spring of 1996 saw the first Youth Musicfest.

1995

1995s Festival offered five musical programs, and the spring of 1995 saw the beginnings of Youth Musicfest.

1994

The 1994 Festival of Music & Art at Pawleys Island offered three musical programs, an art exhibit, a theatrical performance, and a second viewing of the documentary of Miss Ruby Forsythe.

1993

In 1993 the event became known as The Festival of Music & Art at Pawleys Island. 1993’s Festival included six musical programs, an art exhibit, a theatrical performance, and the premiere of a documentary film.

1992

In 1992 the event became known as the Autumn Music Festival and consisted of two programs: “Eine Kleine Nachtmusick” and “Moravian Church Music.”

1991
