The Italian tradition of Street painting dates to the 16th century when artists would travel from town to town for religious festivals and transform the streets and public squares into temporary galleries for their works. The Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art brings this event to the Lowcountry as a way to teach and promote the history of this lost art to all ages and levels of artists. Chalk Walk will provide a wonderful way for people in the community to share a great experience together.

The Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art is honored to offer a workshop for all participants to be held Saturday, October 1, presented by professional Street Painter and Pastel Illustrator, Lee Jones. Seen below are a few samples of Lee Jones’ street paintings. View more artwork on her website, chalk-it-up.com.

Participate in this year’s Chalk Walk and register today for Chalk Under the Oaks 2011.
