The Italian tradition of Street painting dates to the 16th century when artists would travel from town to town for religious festivals and transform the streets and public squares into temporary galleries for their works. The Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art brings this event to the Lowcountry as a way to teach and promote the history of this lost art to all ages and levels of artists. Chalk Under the Oaks provides a wonderful way for people in the community to share a great experience together.
Please join us on Saturday as painters from beginners to professionals chalk their masterpieces. Instructors will be on hand for beginners and chalk will provided and there is absolutely no charge.
Sunday is just for viewing, assuming it does not rain Saturday night.
If you would like to participate in this year’s Chalk Under the Oaks as an artist, download the application below and register before September 1, 2013.
